Toyota launches used-car service

Toyota Motors Viet Nam has launched its first service facility for used cars in Viet Nam. The used car centre at Toyota East Sai Gon Joint Stock Co, a dealer for Toyota Viet Nam in HCM City, trades used cars and provides delivery, maintenance and cosmetic services. The centre has a total investment capital of VND16 billion (US$842,000), covering an area of 1,000sq.m.

Car Sales in the Vietnam Economy Slide 25 Percent

Car sales in the Vietnam economy slid by 25 percent year over year in February according to Vietnam’s Automobile Manufacturers Association as reported by Reuters. Nonetheless, the number one automaker in the Vietnam economy, Toyota, saw an increase in car sales of 33.5 percent from last year.

Scandal damages Toyota’s sales in Vietnam

Vietnamese customers now refuse to purchase Toyotas, even models that have no problems with accelerator pedals, although Toyota has been a reliable brand name in the eyes of Vietnamese consumers for many years. Car importers complain they have never seen such a gloomy business season as this one. They had hoped that after Tet sales would be better and allow them to clear their stock.

Toyota recalls will cost Vietnam owners more

Analysts have estimated that only a small number of Toyotas will be recalled for accelerator pedal problems and most of the recalls will affect only Camry models. At the World Business Forum, Toyota’s president apologized for the need to recall millions of cars around the world due to faulty accelerator pedals. On January 21, Toyota provided its solution and its campaign to recall the cars and fix the problems
