Hepza says will cancel 80 stagnant projects this year

The HCM City Export Processing and Industrial Zones Authority (Hepza) has said it will likely revoke the licenses of some 80 projects of both domestic and foreign investors this year due to long delays or ineffective operations. A Hepza document obtained by the Daily says it will this month alone cancel eight slow-moving projects, having revoked investment licenses of seven projects in the first half of the year, including one foreign-invested project. Hepza said the seven revoked projects were either ineffectively operating or having breached rules, such as illegal use of land for other purposes.

Cathay Pacific launches new freight service

Cathay Pacific Airways said it will officially launch its first global freight service on July 16. This is part of the Hong Kong-based airline’s effort to meet the increasing global demand to transport freight by air. Initially, the service will operate twice weekly, every Friday and Sunday, from Hong Kong international airport to other airports across the world.

Vietnam Imports 73,000 Tons of Sugar Since Early 2010

Vietnam has imported 73,000 tons of sugar so far this year, accounting for 36% out of a full-year import quota of 200,000 tons, the Vietnam Sugar and Cane Association said. The import volume will not be enough for both domestic consumption and production, Vo Thanh Dang, chairman of the association was cited by the Thoi bao kinh te Sai Gon online newspaper as saying. He said local refineries are predicted to produce 948,000 tons in the 2009-2010 crop, down 5,000 tons from the pervious crop, while the country will need around 1.2 million tons
