VIB operates smoothly in trade finance programme

The Vietnam International Commercial Joint Stock Bank (VIB) has been named the bank with the highest revenue in terms of transactions in Vietnam under the Asian Development Bank’s Trade Finance Programme (TFP). The TFP carried out in 2009 and 2010 provides guarantees and loans to the TFP’s member banks in international trade assistance activities. Thanks to the TFP, VIB borrowed loans from foreign banks which are TFP members to assist import firms to improve their production and competitive capacity.

Delta land reform falters on lack of funds

Provinces in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta are making an effort to implement a Government decision to provide housing and agricultural land to poor ethnic minorities but they have run into a road block: land prices are much higher than the amount of money the families get from the government. The decision seeks to ensure all disadvantaged ethnic minority families conditions have their own housing land by 2010, over 80 per cent of poor households have farmlands and stable jobs, and 50 per cent of working-age people get job training. With just a few months to go for the deadline, several of the provinces have not achieved even 50 per cent of the target

43 businesses chosen for National Brand Name programme

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has selected 43 businesses from 12 industries for the National Brand Name programme this year. The businesses, chosen from 2000 entrants, have established their own trademarks in garment, leather shoes, financial service, food and beverages, electronics, technology, telecommunication, real estate, tourism, transportation and distribution. They include such names as VNPT, Vietnam Airlines, Vinacafe, Viettel, Viettien, PetroVietnam and VietinBank.

Australia pledges $105 million ODA

Official development assistance provided by the Australian Government to Viet Nam for the 2010-11 fiscal year will total about A$119.8 million (US$105 million) mainly to improve human resources, infrastructure and institutional development. A key priority of the programme is the commitment to provide 225 post-graduate scholarships as promised by Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd during Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh’s visit to Australia last September.
