The Japan International Cooperation Agency and the Danang Municipal People’s Committee co-sponsored a seminar on July 30 to discuss a strategy for developing tourism in the key economic zone of Central Vietnam. Participants included the Head of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, Nguyen Van Tuan, and representatives of local departments of culture, sports, and tourism.

Vietnam is estimated to need VND136 trillion ($7.2 billion) for electric equipment production in the next five years, said the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The huge needed investment is expected to help meet 70% of the domestic demand for electric wires and transformer stations, as well as satisfy 55% of the local need for electric motors and dynamos by 2015. Last year, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a deal to fund JPY350 million ($3.98 million) for a project to improve the quality of electric equipment in Vietnam

Investments for the part A of Haiphong international gateway port which funded by Japan is likely to rise 3.6 times to VND17.16 trillion compared to the initial cost of VND4.66 trillion. Of the sum, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) pledged VND14.67 trillion ($929.02 million) for the part. The hike of capital is attributed to adjustment of ship size designed for container wharf, length and width of ship passages and other facilities

Viet Nam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) signed a deal to explore for oil in Venezuela’s Orinoco oil belt on Tuesday with Venezuela Petroleum Corporation in Caracas. Viet Nam will invest US$3.2 billion in the oil exploration project making it Viet Nam’s biggest foreign investment project so far.
